Hub in Salem, Oregon, teaches bicycle repair while supplying impoverished people with two-pedal transit. Another job-creating nonprofit that benefits its community in multiple ways is KC Can Compost, which trains and hires homeless people to run a composting service that supports a shelter for unhoused people in Kansas City, Missouri. In Michigan, Strangers No Longer assists new immigrants and helps them advocate for themselves, while providing parishes and Catholic schools with lessons in Catholic social teaching. Bargaining for the Common Good, a program based at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, upholds traditional Catholic support for the right of workers to organize, with an emphasis on benefiting the wider community in which they live. These organizations are expressing God’s love as they make families stronger, neighborhoods safer, and communities kinder. Throughout our nation, people thank God daily for the opportunities you make possible through your gifts to CCHD. You can learn more at www.usccb.org/committees/catholic-campaign-human-development .
