to free and strengthen man, renewing him inwardly and cast ing out that “prince of this world” (John 12:31), who held him in the bondage of sin (cf. Jn 8:34). For sin brought man to a lower state, forcing him away from the completeness that is his to attain. Both the high calling and the deep misery which men expe rience find their final explanation in the light of this Revelation.
