a. Be vigilant that no goods placed in his or her care in any way perish or suffer damage; to this end the business manager or trea surer is, to the extent necessary, to arrange insurance contracts. b. Ensure that the ownership of ecclesiastical goods is safeguarded in ways that are valid in civil law. c. Observe the provisions of Canon Law and civil law and the stip ulations of the donor or lawful authority; the Church might also unjustly suffer damage if Canon and civil law are disregarded. d. Seek accurately and at the proper time the income and produce of the goods, guard them securely, and expend them in accordance with the wishes of the rector, seminary board, or lawful norms. e. Pay, at the proper time, the interest due by reason of a loan or pledge, and take care that in due time the capital is repaid. f. With the consent of the rector or seminary board, make use of money which is surplus after payment of expenses and which can be profitably invested for the purposes of the seminary. g. Keep accurate records of income and expenditures. h. Draw up an account of his or her administration at the end of the year. i. Keep in order and preserve in a convenient and suitable archive the documents and records establishing the rights of the semi nary to its goods; where conveniently possible, authentic copies must be placed in the seminary archives. 519

Seminary Professors 520 Conditions of Service

466. All professors of the seminary are approved and appointed by the competent authority on recommendation of the rector according to the approved statutes of the institution. 521 To teach on an ecclesiastical faculty, a professor requires a canonical mission from the appropriate ecclesiastical authority. 522 In both cases, such commissioning represents a collaborative link between the professor and the Magisterium. “The theologian’s code of conduct, which obviously has its origin in the service of the Word of
